BSA Troop 88 was founded in 1944 by the Honey Creek Baptist Church just North of Christiansburg. Ralph Sutherly was the first Scoutmaster. The Troop enjoyed camping in the woods West of the Church as well as other areas close by. The Charter was transferred to Social Lodge #139 I.O.O.F. Lodge in Christiansburg in 1952 with Russell Ullery as Scoutmaster. In 1954, Bill Gabriel became Scoutmaster. The Troop was folded in 1956 but continued into the 60's as a boy's club.
In 1992, The Christiansburg/Grafton United Methodist Church was asked if they would sponsor a Boy Scout Troop. They voted to sponsor a Troop, and when the question came up about a Troop number, it was decided to use 88 as several Church members were members of the old Troop. Richard Furrow was a charter member of the original Troop.
Keith Hanselman became the Scoutmaster of the Troop. His son, Chris Hanselman became the Troop's first Eagle Scout. Something the original Troop did not have. That number has increased to 10 Eagle Scouts.
The Troop has enjoyed camping in the Christiansburg area as well as other spots across Ohio. In fact, the Troop has camped in Indiana, been to Kentucky and Michigan. The Troop has also left the United States twice and camped in Canada. The Troop also enjoys caving in Indiana.
Michael Grove became Scoutmaster in 2001 until 2008. At that time, Keith Hanselman became Scoutmaster again.
